Sorghum production in Cameroon's Far North and North regions, the two largest production areas, is expected to reach 2 million tonnes (Mt) in 2020, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MINADER) and the Agricultural Investment and Market Development Project (PIDMA).
Behind this interest are the growing needs of agro-industries, particularly Guinness Cameroon, a subsidiary of the Diageo group. This brewing company is committed to a program to reduce raw material imports for making its beverages. In addition, studies are underway in Cameroon's West region, more specifically in the Noun department, to turn it into a sorghum production hub in Cameroon.
