Poultry Farming: Palm Oil Sludge, a Miracle Recipe

Palm oil sludge - an organic waste product usually dumped in the environment - can reduce feed costs for broiler chickens, according to the results of a study conducted by IRAD.
Maize, which makes up 90% of poultry feed, has become increasingly expensive on Cameroonian markets and can be partly replaced by this sludge. To achieve good results, researchers recommend that poultry farmers introduce 7% of this agricultural waste into the diet of broiler chickens aged 20 to 50 days.
Chickens raised on this diet gain almost 3 times more weight than birds fed an ordinary ration, while keeping a normal fat level. At the same time, producers get a 17% reduction in feed costs during the final growth phase of their broiler chickens.
